These days I’m crafting websites, scripts, ads, and more copy for brands and other organizations. My specialty: Content that makes audiences feel appreciated, understood, and compelled to do or try something new—like protecting their families from the everyday impacts of climate change. Or adopting programs that can transform schools. Or voting like democracy depends on it. Exciting stuff like that.

I still partner with magazines too: In December 2018, I edited Crain’s Chicago Business’s annual “40 Under 40” mega-feature, and in September I co-edited “The Most Powerful Women in Chicago Business,” a look at how 25 of the city’s biggest bosses got their confidence, control, money, and influence.

Managing Editor & Other editorial roles  October 2012 – MAY 2017

Rookie, New York

As Rookie’s managing editor, I mentored many of a generation’s most talented writers, artists, and editors to make stories loved by teens and adults alike. I directed a New York–based editorial staff and dozens of contributors to publish personal essays, photo essays, service stories, comics, cultural criticism, videos, and more content, seven days a week. I also curated social media for 150,000-plus followers on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Prior to that, I was a story editor at Rookie. Work of mine appears in the Rookie Yearbook series, published by Razorbill at Penguin Random House. I produced videos for Rookie, too—my favorite being a series of how-tos featuring celebrities and their hidden talents.

Senior Editor & Other editorial roles  September 2009 – October 2012

Chicago magazine, ChiCago

As a senior editor at Chicago, I oversaw the magazine’s style, fashion, and travel verticals, concept-ing and editing print and digital content for curious Chicagoans. I collaborated closely with designers and art directors on visual storytelling. I also contributed to tentpole features including “Best of Chicago,” “Chicagoans of the Year,” “The Power 100,” and more. Managing the magazine's internship program for student journalists was a bonus part of the job.

Earlier at Chicago, I was an associate editor assigning and editing the magazine’s style and events content. I edited the weekly events newsletter, Chicago Guide, as well as the shopping newsletter, Sales Check. I joined the magazine as assistant dining editor, covering food culture and contributing to the popular dining-out newsletter, Dish.
